A SPORTING lesson from reader Keith Wright. “Heading a ball with accuracy and power proves that a player has a great deal of skill and dynamism,” explains Keith. “Though it’s still not advisable while bowling.”

THE Diary has proof that Scottish footy fans are of a genteel vintage; as sophisticated and well-bred as any peer of the realm.

Reader Becky Burns was in a bus leaving Glasgow city centre, a few hours before Scotland played Israel at Hampden, when she glanced out the window at a passing taxi.

The back door of the cab swung open and a bloke bedecked in tartan regalia leaned out before vomiting prodigiously on the road.

He then swayed back into the cab, slamming the door shut.

Says Becky: “Clearly this chap understood that it’s more polite to hurl one’s partially digested breakfast out of the cab, rather than spraying it over the back seat. Such a nuanced approach to etiquette! Surely this is the very fellow to take home and introduce to Mama and Papa.”
